GREAT BIG SEA

Great Big Sea is a Canadian folk-rock band from Newfoundland and Labrador, best known for performing energetic rock interpretations of traditional Newfoundland folk songs from the island’s 500-year-old Irish, English, and French heritage.

On March 11, 2012, Great Big Sea celebrated their nineteenth birthday as a band; a band that has come to define the energetic spirit of Newfoundland. But somewhere along the way, Great Big Sea ceased to be just a band – for the three core members and their assorted collaborators, it’s a way of life.

While music fashions come and go, Great Big Sea has continued to build audiences across the continent, selling out almost every venue they perform in. A hard- working approach to touring and performance, along with a genuine love for the music they perform, has kept the band growing, despite being pretty much immune to musical fashions. While some groups might bristle at these distractions, for Great Big Sea it is just fuel to the fire that drives their artistry.

THE BARENAKED LADIES

Toronto, Canada’s fun-loving popsters Barenaked Ladies were never ones to follow a trend.

Their rock & roll dreams began to take off when their  debut album, Gordon, was released in 1992.  College kids across North America were keen on singles such as “Be My Yoko Ono,” “Enid,” and the charming favourite “If I Had a $1,000,000”, and BNL began their reign as Canada’s pop kings, alongside greats like The Tragically Hip.

To date, The Barenaked Ladies have sold over 15 million albums and singles.  But putting talent aside, it was a friendship that consumed this band, and that bond was what cemented their place in alternative rock.

"I’m as proud a Canadian as one could be. My heart beats Canada, I believe in this country and I believe in Canadians. Canada is a place where dreams are limitless, inspiration is infinite; it’s in the air we breathe, and also in our hearts. - Nelly Furtado, Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductee"

"Everything comes from my being Canadian, from people in my life & my world as a Canadian. There would be no Michael J. Fox Foundation if it weren’t for Terry Fox & Rick Hansen. Their vision, courage & inspiration; I can’t say enough about it. - Michael J. Fox, Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductee"

"There is no way to articulate the joy & pride that I get from being Canadian. Canada has been nurturing, kind and the people here have a genuine interest in all aspects of life and everything that it has to offer & that shows in our hearts. - Kiefer Sutherland, Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductee"
